THE FLUTTERBIES DECEMBER 2010 — HO HO HO & WIN-SO!

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Hey, y’all! Welcome to The Flutterbies December newsletter. Keywords this month: Ho Ho Ho and Win/So!

Happy Holidays

The Flutterbies wish you and yours a happy, healthy holiday season and a joyous New Year!
Thank you for the fun in 2010—we look forward to great adventures in 2011, including…

Win/So Signs The Flutterbies

Winogradsky/Sobel, the powerhouse music publishing, placement, and new media firm founded by renowned entertainment attorneys Steve Winogradsky and Ron Sobel, celebrates the recent signing of… us! The Flutterbies join Win/So’s distinguished roster of artists, which includes the legendary Billy Preston. “We are very choosy about who we represent,” says Ron Sobel, who, while ASCAP Director of Business Affairs, signed Lenny Kravitz, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. “We’ve never heard anything like The Flutterbies, and look forward to elegantly introducing them to the music-buying and TV watching public.”

Stay tuned this coming year!

Bake Sale Benefit

Last month, Thanksgiving week, we played a show with our good friends Rachel and the Resonators at Joe’s Great American Bar & Grill in Burbank, CA. Benefitting 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines—Dark Horse, the gig was packed: 200+ people, SRO. In attendance were The Patriot Guard—a group of bikers who show support for our troops by riding their hogs—and also some cute swing-dancin’ marine boys! Concert-goers donated comfort items and bought baked goods to pay for overseas postage to Afghanistan. Here’s a pic of the glamour girls who produced this Dancing Dolls for the Troops event: Gloria Hanson, Maureen Davis of The Flutterbies, Rachel Riznor, and Mary Pittman.

By the way, these same girls helped Maureen achieve a truly cool goal on December 3rd: dancing 101 days in a row! Go, Mo!

All our holiday best to you and yours…

A BELOVED PROFESSOR PASSES

Much love to the family and friends of Professor Charles “Chuck” Vicinus –the man, who, to this day, is the voice in my head that keeps me real onstage and off and helps me “find the funny”. Toledo City Paper – The Flutterbies featuring Maureen Davis
Written by TCPAdmin
Tue, 12 May 2009
Sunday, May 24
The Zodiac (formerly Club Bijou)
Country music — it’s either your thing, or it isn’t. And while my opinion has, for a significant
portion of my life, fallen into the latter category, I’m starting to understand the appeal. Thanks to
alt-country, a hybrid genre of country and alternative rock, country music is reaching a broader
audience, becoming more accessible to not-in-my-lifetime listeners. Bands and musicians like
Wilco and Ryan Adams have helped me see the light, and now there’s a female alt-country
counter-part on the rise. Maureen Davis,
formerly of Toledo’s own Maureen Davis and the
Movers, is currently on tour with The Flutterbies (based in California), and their sound has
received tremendous praise for successfully blending the two genres. Davis is the whole
package: soul-stirring vocals, provocative lyrics and sultry looks. This combination, on top of
guitarist Bart Ryan’s mad slide guitar skills, helped them win the 2009 South Bay Music Award
for best country artist. The band is sure to convert other rock enthusiasts who might want to
break on through to the country side.
Also recommended for any existing country music lovers.
The Flutterbies featuring Maureen Davis take on Toledo at The Zodiac on Sunday, May 24. The
Coosters also play.
$5. 9 p.m. 135 S. Byrne Rd.
