THE FLUTTERBIES in Golden Globe Winner “The Descendants” – On To the Oscars!

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Happy New Year, Flutterbies fans!

We’re starting off 2012 with a bang… “The Descendants” won Golden Globes for Best Picture and Best Actor. So music by The Flutterbies is now in a double Golden Globe award-winning film. You can hear Maureen sing “Hummingbird Heart” and “Faith in Rain” as background for the pivotal confrontation scene between Matt (George Clooney) and Brian (Matthew Lillard). Our ongoing thanks to music supervisor Dondi Bastone for including our Alt Country music in a primarily Hawaiian soundtrack.

Now, onto the Oscars!

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Hey, Flutterbies fans… Let us warm you up as the weather cools—with a sexy, swampy "Slow Ride" and some screen time to snuggle up to.

Slow Ride

Our new single is out now! It’s a cover of Foghat’s classic rock anthem "Slow Ride," with seductive slide guitars and smoky vocals. Sounds like the love child of Pussycat Dolls and Ry Cooder. Click the cover art below for streaming audio and links to purchase:

Next, check out the wacky webcast of Acme Saturday Night hosted by Don Stark from That 70′s Show. The cast kept us laughing so hard backstage we almost missed our cue to play!

Come Alive, Cartoon Network, and Cats

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Hey Flutterbies fans, welcome to our August newsletter… Keywords this month: Come Alive, Cartoon Network, and Cats!

Come Alive

We have a new single for you this month, and it’s debuting with a bang! Our track "Come Alive" will be featured on the Adult Swim/Cartoon Network show Children’s Hospital August 11 at midnight (so that’s actually August 12, technically). They’ve taken our sweet romantic ballad and made it extremely funny, and we love that… The show boasts an ensemble cast with serious star power: Rob Corddry, Megan Mullally, Henry Winkler, and Erinn Hayes. Flashback: Maureen shared an early career dressing room with Erinn at Disneyland. Erinn was there for sketch comedy, and Maureen was making music.

We couldn’t be more thrilled to be checked into Children’s Hospital!

"Come Alive" is the first song Maureen and co-conspirator Adam Daniel wrote for The Flutterbies. An alt-country duet about the thrill ride of falling in love, the track has been a live favorite for some time now, and was even performed at a fan’s wedding! It’s available now at iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, etc. Click the cover art below for a streaming sample and direct links to purchase.

Cats for Cats

Also this month, Flutterby Maureen will appear in the concert Cats for Cats Saturday August 6 at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. Another impressive cast here includes Fred Willard, Mindy Sterling (from Austin Powers and The Flutterbies "How I Get Over you" music video), Jean Louisa Kelly (from Yes Dear and also another of Maureen’s early career compatriots, from Into the Woods on Broadway), Mandy Moore and this year’s So You Think You Can Dance finalists! All proceeds benefit Kitty Bungalow, a local nonprofit saving stray cats and kittens. Click here for tickets, and use the promo code "friends" and get 50% off!

We hope you enjoy the new single! See ya next month…

The single features Mo and the fiery fingers of Flutterby Adam, and was co-produced with Kenny Lyons (Jim Bianco, The Divinyls, Lemonheads). Click on the cover art, below, to open a webpage with a streamable sample and links to purchase at iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby!

Dawn and Ben Goldstein (Ohio), Kyle Gebhart (Deleware), Dave Rodgers (Hollywood), Charles Nainan (Los Angeles) and Helen Downing (Maryland) all contributed to the cost of filming the show, which is now posted for your enjoyment on YouTube! Our sincere thanks to our gig’s generous sponsors. Also, thanks to Jose Amaral Jr. of Amaral Productions for a fine filming job, The Ghostwriters and Mather Louth & Radio Noir for sharing the bill that evening, Jay Tinsky, Robin, Jim Vitale, Soundman Nicolas, and all the kind folks at Genghis Cohen.

Bake Sale Benefit

Last month, Thanksgiving week, we played a show with our good friends Rachel and the Resonators at Joe’s Great American Bar & Grill in Burbank, CA. Benefitting 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines—Dark Horse, the gig was packed: 200+ people, SRO. In attendance were The Patriot Guard—a group of bikers who show support for our troops by riding their hogs—and also some cute swing-dancin’ marine boys! Concert-goers donated comfort items and bought baked goods to pay for overseas postage to Afghanistan. Here’s a pic of the glamour girls who produced this Dancing Dolls for the Troops event: Gloria Hanson, Maureen Davis of The Flutterbies, Rachel Riznor, and Mary Pittman.

By the way, these same girls helped Maureen achieve a truly cool goal on December 3rd: dancing 101 days in a row! Go, Mo!

The issue, with Sting on the cover, is available at most national booksellers, newsstands, and Guitar Center stores. The top lists are also posted online:

Radio Radio

The Flutterbies continue to widen our international audience… This month, we’re on the radio in Canada! Our song "Louder Louder" is featured in a podcast called The Rock and Roll Report that also airs on CKUT FM radio in Montreal. DJ Mark Boudreau gave us this fine, fine introduction:

This is a great band… This is a great song, and it just says it all for me. This is "Louder Louder" by a band called The Flutterbies. And, I mean, what else can you do with a song called "Louder Louder" than turn it up! So turn it up…

Turn it up, indeed! Click here to stream the podcast. (We’re on 28 minutes into the show.)

Merci, Mark and Montreal!
