Hey, y’all! Welcome to The Flutterbies October newsletter… Keywords this month: jukebox, troika, tea, troops, and temptation!
Put Another Dime in the Jukebox, Baby
Catch The Flutterbies’ single "Hummingbird Heart" on your local jukebox! We’re on the Paste Magazine Emerging Artist Channel on the Ecast Network. Ecast jukeboxes appear in over 10,000 bars, nightclubs, and restaurants throughout the country. And at drive-ins. And at sock-hops. We’re retro-fabulous in October.
Los Angeles Music Awards… Troika!
The Flutterbies have been nominated for THREE Los Angeles Music Awards! We’re up for Best Female Singer-Songwriter (Maureen), Best Single "Hummingbird Heart", and Best Country CD. Live voting party is October 8th at The Whisky on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA, so come on down and cast your ballot for us! $10 cover for 6 bands (we heard they rock) and a discussion panel with Grammy-winning producer David Kershenbaum and Music Connection magazine’s Mark Nardone, responsible for The Flutterbies’ first ever review back in April (thanks, Mark!). Once the votes are counted, the Los Angeles Music Awards will be at The Avalon Theatre in November.
Black Sand Music
The Flutterbies have signed a licensing deal with Josh Sanderson of Black Sand Music to shop our EP The Flutterbies featuring Maureen Davis to TV, films, and video game soundtracks. We’re thrilled to join Black Sand’s roster, which includes Shane Alexander, Lenka, Michelle Featherstone, and our good friend Jim Bianco. Check out Black Sand’s MySpace to see what upcoming shows may feature our music!
Even Bad Girls Drink Tea, continued
In last month’s newsletter we asked this question: What do Maureen’s photo series Even Bad Girls Drink Tea, Algabar Loose Leaf Tea, and The Flutterbies single "Hummingbird Heart" have in common?
This month: the exciting answer!
Some weeks back, Gail at Algabar Tea was cooking up a new custom blend. As she was working, our single "Hummingbird Heart" apparently came into her mind, so she decided to name the tea just that: Hummingbird Heart. No confirmed release date yet, but the tea will be available both at The Flutterbies shows and online, where it will come packaged with a free download of our single "Hummingbird Heart"! Meanwhile, Maureen’s Even Bad Girls Drink Tea photo session last month is becoming a coffee table book, spotlighting some of Hollywood’s hottest upcoming fashion designers, hairstylists, makeup artists, and models. The book, our song, and Algabar’s tea will continue to intersect in wild, wonderful ways as we approach the holiday gift-giving season…
Video Killed the Radio Star, continued
The Flutterbies video for our next single "How I Get Over You" is being edited as we speak! And the footage looks great. Stay tuned, stay tuned, stay tuned…

Hey, y’all! Welcome to The Flutterbies September newsletter… This month we’re all about multimedia, with new alt-country glamour pics for you, exciting video news, and more!
Even Bad Girls Drink Tea
A few weeks back, Christopher Cleary, long time friend of The Flutterbies and gifted photographer, called and said "I’m coming to town; let’s make art!" The resulting photo series is called Even Bad Girls Drink Tea and we’re knockdown thrilled to share a few pics of Maureen from the set:
SNEAK PREVIEW PUZZLE: What do the photo series Even Bad Girls Drink Tea, Algabar Loose Leaf Tea, and The Flutterbies’ single "Hummingbird Heart" have in common? Stay tuned for the exciting answer, coming in October’s newsletter…
Video Killed the Radio Star, continued
The Flutterbies’ video for our next single "How I Get Over You" is almost done! Filming is wrapped and the footage is off now to editor Kris Kasper, whose credits include clips by Wolfmother and Britney Spears. Detailed credits will be posted online when we debut the video, but for now we’d like to simply and sincerely thank:
1. Co-writer/producer/director Dan Zacharias (from the band Imperial Z)
2.
Director of photography Kyle Drevlo
3.
Dana Sol & Mi Casa Studios for providing cameras
4. Production coordinator & Band-Aid Mark "The Bacon" Harvey
5.
Everyone else who plotted, schemed, and participated in our raucous film shoot!
The video is epic: think Batman meets Moulin Rouge meets… The Flutterbies!
And special thanks to Mindy Sterling from the Austin Powers movies for her crazy sexy cameo! She and her riding crop are pictured here, with video co-star Lawson Digby:

Reviews
This month’s review comes from columnist James Hames, from the online newspaper My Daily Find. James caught our August gig at Kulak’s Woodshed in North Hollywood, CA and had this to say:
The showpiece of the night was Davis under the umbrella of The Flutterbies (pronounced like a Spoonerism of butterflies). The solid songs include the engaging “Hummingbird Heart”— a song being lent to efforts to overturn Prop. 8 — and “Damn Glad,” a song that navigates the paradox of “Will I regret saying ‘good riddance’?” She travels that big-voiced Alannah Myles road with a more nuanced country feeling in the sound.
A full review of the evening, which also included solo sets by The Flutterbies’ guitarists Adam Daniel and Bart Ryan, is readable online here.
Thank you, James!
